Greece's Intralot said Monday that following an international procurement process, it has signed a five-year contract to undertake the technical and commercial operation of the two state-owned Moroccan lotteries, Societe de Gestion de la Loterie Nationale and La Marocaine des Jeux et des Sports.

The two complimentary lotteries operate a broad gaming portfolio including sports betting and numerical games, as well as instant and fast draw entertainment games, sharing a distribution network of over 1,400 points of sale throughout Morocco.

Under the contract which has an initial term of five years with an automatic two year renewal option based on performance criteria, Intralot will deploy its flagship LOTOS O/S Central System and games management software while expanding the retail distribution network by installing more than 4,500 terminals.

Intralot will also introduce interactive gaming channels such as mobile and internet through its B-On platform.

The company will undertake the operation of all games including the risk management of fixed-odds sports betting, the management of instant tickets, and will provide additional services such as marketing, maintenance and training.

In addition, Intralot will develop the lotteries' games portfolio by enhancing the current games and introducing new games throughout the term of the contract.

"We are very satisfied to have won this prestigious contract, since the two Lotteries selected our pioneering technology and trusted our operational expertise to deliver on this demanding project," said Constantinos Antonopoulos, CEO of Intralot. "We have identified early in the process the great potential of the Moroccan market and have embraced the Lotteries' vision to evolve and grow their operations.

"We are confident that our partnership with the Lotteries will be mutually beneficial and prosperous and that the implementation of this project will become a milestone for Intralot and the Lottery sector."

The Societe de Gestion de la Loterie Nationale operates national lottery games in Morocco with a core focus on draw and instant games, while La Marocaine des Jeux et des Sports holds the concession to organise sports betting games in the country. Last year gross sales reached approximately €50 million and €70 million respectively for the two lotteries.

"We are delighted to close this long process of negotiation with a new partner that committed to help us re-build the fundamentals of the gaming industry in Morocco," said Moncef Belkhayat, Minister of Youth and Sports of Morocco.
