Broadcaster FOX Sports Australia has teamed up with betting operator CrownBet to launch Draftstars, a new daily fantasy sports (DFS) offering powered by Sportech’s DraftDay platform.

The early version of Draftstars is now online at draftstars.com.au and went live March 31st (Thursday), with DraftDay providing its platform through an exclusive agreement for the Australian market. The product is licensed and regulated by the Northern Territory Racing Commission.

Draftstars claims to be the most advanced DFS platform in Australia and serves as the Australian Football League’s (AFL) official daily fantasy sports partner, with exclusive access to match content not available via any other operator.

Players can compete and win against their peers across a range of games with free or paid entry, in both collective and guaranteed prize pools. Players can also form their own competitions with friends or compete in broader public competitions.

While AFL contests will be the first available on Draftstars, other local and global sports including the National Rugby League and US National Basketball Association will be added in the coming months.

“As Australia’s sport leader with a dedicated AFL channel and coverage of every round live and with no ad-breaks in-play, millions of AFL fans already delve into the game with our broadcast and digital platforms every day,” FOX Sports chief executive Patrick Delany commented.

“Draftstars is a natural extension of the way we connect with Australians’ passion for sport, bringing together our broadcast credentials with CrownBet’s gaming expertise to allow AFL fans to immerse themselves in the sport in a whole new way.”

Draftstars chief executive Matt Sanders commented that Australians love their sport, competing and testing their knowledge of sports against friends.

“Anyone who lives and breathes AFL will love Draftstars for the exciting and engaging digital sporting experience our platform will deliver,” he said.

“Draftstars is a game-changing product, offering massive guaranteed prize pools and a range of games to suit any player, from the sports fanatic to the beginner. If you love the competitive grit and excitement of live sport, you’re going to love Draftstars.”

CrownBet CEO Matt Tripp added: “In creating this joint venture between CrownBet and Fox Sports, we believe we are bringing a global leading product to Australian fantasy fans.

“We are launching our product early to coincide with the start of the AFL season, to give Australian sports fans the chance to try it out and let us know what they think. We have an exciting road map of additional sports and features, including a mobile app in the coming weeks.”
