Australian licensed jockey Damien Oliver has been banned from racing for ten months after pleading guilty to placing a significant bet on a rival horse.

Oliver is one of Australia’s leading thoroughbred jockeys, currently ranking third in the all-time honour of Australian Group One winning jockeys, and has won two Melbourne Cups as well as four Caulfield Cup wins and two Cox Plates.

Racing Victoria stewards held an inquiry earlier today into two charges which had been brought against Oliver, following an investigation into allegations that he had bet $10,000 on Miss Octopussy in Race 6 at Moonee Valley on October 1st 2010.
