The Dutch government is expected to announce that online poker is to be legalised under a non-exclusive licensing system, based on the recommendations of the Online Gaming Advisory Committee established by the Ministry of Justice.

Since its formation in September 2009, the six-member advisory committee has been investigating the Dutch online gaming market and the application of Dutch law wth regard to gaming. (more)

In its final report to the Ministry of Justice, the committee notes that certain forms of gaming are already on offer under existing Dutch legislation, primarily sports betting and the national lottery, with little cause for concern.

The committee also notes that illegal games of chance are prevelant via the internet with minimal interference from the criminal justice system.
