It was a slow start to the year for lotteries worldwide as aggregate sales increased by just 1 per cent during the first quarter of 2017 following a significant decline in participating North American lotteries.

Solid performances by the Asia Pacific and Latin American lotteries were offset by a decrease in sales in North America, which was impacted by the record-breaking Powerball draw in January 2016. The USD$1.59bn jackpot led to record ticket sales in Q1 2016.
