Gala Coral subsidiary Coral has launched Bet-in-Play, a tablet-based solution provided by sportsbook and gaming software provider OpenBet, that is designed to offer an online-style in-play betting experience in a retail environment.

The Bet-In-Play (BIP) Terminal is a software-only solution delivered using OpenBet’s SiteBuilder platform. It is designed to operate on any self-service touchscreen tablet device, allowing for cash-free betting on a range of markets in Coral’s retail estate.

It allows Coral to offer a wider range of bets via terminals that were previously only available over-the-counter, and verify customer identity using a near-field communication card and pin system.

OpenBet describes the BIP Terminals as the first cashless in-play wagering application available on the UK high street, noting that it has lower overheads than traditional self-service betting terminals as a cashless product.

The terminals are connected to Coral’s recently-launched in-shop customer card Coral Connect, allowing them to bet through online and retail channels with a single account. OpenBet provided the technology to integrate Playtech’s online accounts in a land-based environment, whilst also connecting it to the BIP solution.

Coral Connect has been credited as a major driver of growth for the operator, with Gala Coral CEO Carl Leaver noting that it has boosted active customer numbers, with users showing a propensity to spend more.

Coral group IT director Adrian Thompson said his company was determined to ensure innovation across all channels whilst also providing players with a seamless user experience.

“Choosing OpenBet as our partner for this multi-channel project was an easy decision, with their market-leading sportsbook and expertise together with that of Coral’s, along with their unrivalled open platform to integrate seamlessly with third party systems, it has allowed us to continue to drive the business forward,” Thompson explained. “This partnership demonstrates the value we place on our continuing partnership with OpenBet.”

OpenBet chief executive Jeremy Thompson-Hill said he was extremely pleased to have extended his company’s relationship with Coral.

“[Following] on from our work on Coral Connect, the BIP Terminal demonstrates our commitment to continuously develop and evolve to provide Coral, and all our other customers, a set of market-leading products that helps drive their business forward,” Thompson-Hill explained.

“The BIP Terminal truly brings live betting to the high street whilst offering a seamless bet in-play experience for retail,” he added.
