Online gaming software supplier Microgaming has signed a licensing agreement with Universal Partnerships & Licensing to develop a new online slot based on 2011 romantic comedy film Bridesmaids.

Directed by Paul Feig, Bridesmaids features a star-studded comedy cast, including Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson. A critical and commercial success, the film has grossed more than $288m to date worldwide.

Microgaming will produce an online slot based on hilarious moments from the film, due for launch in August later this year. The game will be a five reel, multi-level bonus game, available online and via the browser of mobile devices, featuring all the main characters, as well as side-splitting clips from the movie.

Microgaming CEO Roger Raatgever said: “Bridesmaids is a comedy classic. The storyline, characters and genuinely hilarious stand-out scenes combine to make it one of the most successful comedy films of all time.

“We’re thrilled to have signed another licensing agreement with Universal. Furthermore, the brand adds a completely new dimension to our branded game portfolio – we’re excited for its launch later in the year.”

Last year Microgaming released a slot based on Jurassic Park through its partnership with Universal, while a number of other suppliers have developed branded slots on Universal titles including The Invisible Man (Net Entertainment) and Psycho (NYX Gaming Group).
