An Act to amend Canada’s Criminal Code to legalise single-event sports betting passed out of Committee Thursday and is now headed to the Senate for final approval.
Bill C-290 previously passed through the House of Commons virtually unopposed thanks to all-party support and has been the subject of several hearings in the past month before the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee.
Despite overwhelming parliamentary support, the Bill is opposed by the major sports leagues.
