The German Sports Betting Association (DSWV) claims that the country's failure to license betting operators is preventing football clubs from maximising the financial benefit of betting partnerships and sponsorship.
The association revealed that for the 2015/16 season which began this weekend, private sports betting operators will invest more than €16m in Bundesliga clubs, three times the amount contributed by state lotteries. It notes, however, that this could have been significantly higher if the uncertainty over the licensing regime had been resolved.
