Hawaii has become the latest US state to declare that daily fantasy sports contests constitute illegal gambling under existing state law.
A formal advisory opinion issued Wednesday by Hawaii Attorney General Doug Chin states that DFS contests such as those offered by FanDuel and DraftKings constitute illegal gambling because the operators allow Hawaii players to participate and win money based on the performance of athletes they select.
