Changing market a threat to funding of sport says EC study

The European Commission has released a study into the funding of grassroots sport across the European Union which states that existing funding mechanisms from gambling are threatened by the impact of illegal operators and integrity issues such as match-fixing.

The growth of online betting and increased competition has, according to the report, also created a need to review the regulatory regimes for lotteries and gambling “to avoid a decrease in revenue from compulsory schemes.”
