Betting data and solutions provider Sports Information Services (SIS) has appointed Richard Ames as its new chief executive officer following the resignation of Gary Smith.

Smith has stepped down as CEO after five years in the role to pursue new opportunities, but will provide consultancy services to the business to ensure a smooth transition.

"The Board would like to thank Gary for his dedicated service and contribution to SIS," chairman Roger Devlin said. "I am pleased to have secured someone with Richard's experience of the industry to take over the role."

Ames has taken over as CEO with immediate effect, having rejoined SIS as interim product director in November 2016. He previously worked as interim managing director of product and operations for SIS, before leaving in 2014 to take over as chief executive of toy maker Hornby.

Ames' previous industry experience includes serving as managing director of UK and Irish retail, then of product, for Ladbrokes.

"The team at SIS Betting is experienced and committed and I am looking forward to working with them," Ames said. "We will continue to deliver great service for our core retail bookmaker customers and new online customers, as well as broadening our product offer for both retail and online markets in line with our diversification strategy.

"I am also looking forward to working with David Meynell, MD of our SIS LIVE media business and his team, who will continue to drive our connectivity proposition to new and different markets."
