South Africa’s Goldrush partners BetTech for online sportsbook launch

28th May 2014 7:41 am GMT

South African land-based gaming operator Goldrush Gaming Group has launched a new online sportsbook in partnership with gaming software provider BetTech Gaming.

The launch of GBets.co.za follows Goldrush’s decision to enter South Africa’s burgeoning online sports betting market, after nearly twenty years as an established land-based operator of bingo and casino venues across the country.

“The sports betting market in South Africa is already massive,” said Goldrush Group CEO Mergan Naidoo. “It is developing by the day and we recognise that it has huge potential for future growth. By launching G-Bets we are able to boost our product offering into online sports betting and provide our players with the opportunity to interact with our brand at any time – and at their convenience.”

G-Bets offers online and mobile players players a wide range of pre-match and in-play wagering opportunities from domestic and international sporting events, including all South African and European horse racing fixtures. The website operates under a licence from the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board.

Goldrush said that the launch of the new betting brand is being promoted by an extensive media campaign in South Africa, with adverts running online and across a selection of the country’s most prominent TV stations and daily newspapers.

“This agreement with the Goldrush Gaming Group helps confirm BetTech’s strong position as supplier to the African market,” said BetTech Gaming co-founder and chief commercial officer Mark Bosman. “With an established name and loyal customer base behind it, G-Bets is certain to be a popular destination with South African sports bettors.”

Goldrush began operations as an operator of seven bingo venues under the Viva Bingo brand in 1997, before expanding into slots (Limited Payout Machines) as a route operator in 2008.

The company now operates bingo operations in Gauteng and Mpumalanga with further bingo licenses granted in Kwazulu Natal and the Northwest Province with pending licenses in The Eastern Cape. Goldrush also runs LPM operations in Gauteng, Limpopo and The Northwest with pending licenses in the Free State and Northern Cape.
