Committee approves bill to rescind NJ’s ban on sports betting

The New Jersey Assembly’s Tourism and Gaming committee has unanimously approved legislation which would repeal the law that criminalises sports betting in the state.

It follows a directive issued by Governor Chris Christie last month to allow sports betting in the state without fear of criminal prosecution, which has subsequently been challenged by the country's four professional sports leagues, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and the Department of Justice.
