British Columbia’s Information and Privacy Commissioner Elizabeth Denham has concluded in a final report released Monday that British Columbia Lottery Corporation’s (BCLC) launch of its online gaming site last year failed to adequately protect customers’ personal information.

The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) investigated a privacy breach of personal information on the day of’s launch on July 15th last year. The initial investigation determined that the cause of the breach - an internal technical issue affecting 134 accounts - had been properly identified and remediated.

A second broader investigation identified a number of security gaps when was launched, the cumulative effect of which resulted in inadequate protection of customers’ personal information.
