Isle of Man-based gaming software provider Microgaming has finalised a licensing agreement with Studiocanal that will see the company develop an online slot game based on the science fiction film Terminator 2.

The film was released in 1991 and grossed over $500m in box office sales, winning four Academy Awards and two BAFTAs.

Images of the film’s characters, including star Arnold Schwarzenegger, will now be used in a new slot, due for release this summer.

The Terminator 2 game will offer players hundreds of ways to win alongside bonus rounds triggered by symbols featuring the film’s protagonist, the T800, or T1000 antagonist.

Microgaming’s chief executive Roger Raatgever said he was “incredibly excited” to have secured the rights to a brand that he described as perfect for the online gaming industry.

“As explosive as the film, we are in the process of creating an action-packed, jaw-dropping slot; it’s a classic in the making,” Raatgever added.

Studiocanal was represented in discussions by Creative Licensing Corporation, whose president Rand Marlis noted Microgaming’s previous success with IPs including the Dark Knight slot game.

“Microgaming has vast experience in licensing brands and we have every confidence that the Terminator 2 online slot will be a massive success,” Marlis said. “Working with Microgaming is a real pleasure and we look forward to a long-lasting and successful relationship.”
