Gamesys is a business that goes from strength to strength while its peers struggle. There is huge competition in the UK bingo market but Gamesys continues to outstrip its rivals.
The UK bingo market has declined over the past few years, but Gamesys bucks the trend, reporting a rise in turnover in its most recent accounts. It bolstered its presence with the new Starspins brand and the acquisition of Virgin Games.
It has also seen its business in European markets grow. Although it withdrew from the overcrowded Italian market, it has developed a strong presence in Spain and made a successful foray into the Swedish market.
In both cases it has eased itself in with its excellent approach to marketing. Whether it is using colourful celebrities, launching bizarre publicity stunts such as sailing a giant rubber duck down the River Thames or simply engaging with players through social channels, its methods are proven to bring in new customers year after year.
Gamesys has made its own success. It has developed proprietary slot games, built by dedicated teams focused on different themes, to create unique content. At a time when other companies are relying increasingly on third-party
games, titles developed in-house are becoming an increasingly important commodity that can help retain users and increase market share.
Gamesys’ operational excellence is reflected by its outstanding financial record. Its most recent annual results revealed a 10 per cent rise in turnover to £199m, with amounts wagered up to £4.85bn. The company faces a number of challenges in 2015, but with a visionary CEO in the form of Noel Hayden and a seasoned operational leader in Lee Fenton, one would back it to succeed.
