Nigerian online bookmaker Nairabet has become the first operator to launch Virtual Basketball League (VBL), the latest virtual sports product to be released by Sportradar’s Betradar subsidiary.

Betradar claims VBL is the first basketball product to be released in the virtual sports market, which sees 16 teams compete in a league format, with 8 matches always running in parallel.

This allows for 2,400 fixtures per day, covering all major betting markets using Betradar’s odds feed, the same technology used for real matches.

The supplier has designed the product to offer as close an experience as possible to betting on real events, and includes live scores, tables and statistics, albeit at a much higher frequency. With new matches starting every 3.5 minutes, VBL allows for high frequency betting at all times, including multiples.

The game was first launched in July this year as the largest motion capture technology project attempted to date, with more than a hundred cameras and a full basketball court used to capture the action.

VBL becomes the fifth virtual sports product launched by Nairabet, with the game launched through software provider SB Betting.

The operator was also among the first to launch the supplier’s virtual horse racing product, and believes that the basketball roll-out “underlines its role as a key player in the African market and the importance of a broad range of diversified products.”

“Virtual Basketball League is a perfect addition to the portfolio of Betradar’s virtual sports,” SB Betting chief operating officer Michal Glowacki commented. “As soon as it had been made available, we got integration requests from the majority of our customers [including] Nairabet. It also shows how popular other Virtual Sports products have been so far.”

Sportradar commercial director Neale Deeley said he was “more than proud” to have launched VBL with Nairabet.

“The quick decision to implement a very recently launched product proves to us that we made a good job creating a very convincing product, which is perceived very well throughout the entire market,” Deeley explained. “We are also happy about the smooth and quick integration through SB Betting.”
