Sport Integrity Monitor (SportIM), Genius Sports Group’s sports betting integrity monitoring service, will help combat corruption in Major League Baseball (MLB) after signing the league as its first North American partner.
The deal will see SportIM work with MLB on a variety of initiatives to ensure the integrity of their events.
SportIM will monitor vast amounts of sport and wagering-related data and statistics on behalf of the MLB, reporting trends in real time. The new expanded monitoring programme will help baseball remain free from corruption as global interest in the sport grows.
The partnership is an extension of the MLB’s anti-corruption policies, with a number of wide-ranging initiatives already in place. It believes that these steps will ensure that fans can always watch a fair and transparent game, players can compete knowing there are no external factors influencing the outcome, and league representatives are equipped with the tools to keep the sport clean.
“Major League Baseball is pleased to work with Sport Integrity Monitor in this vital area, as this partnership will be an essential part of our initiatives to protect the game's integrity,” MLB chief legal officer Dan Halem said. “We look forward to making use of SportIM's expertise and market-leading monitoring solutions in order to ensure that we have accurate and timely intelligence.”
SportIM chief executive Mark Locke added that he was proud to be expanding the business into the North American market, and hoped for a long relationship with the MLB.
“It is reassuring to know that forward thinking organisations such as MLB are actively taking steps on how to best safeguard their competitions and implement effective measures in this environment to prevent any issues.”
