OpenBet will collaborate with long-term partner the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) to launch sports pools on the operator’s site, the first time a regulated gaming site in Canada has launched the product.

The sports pools will allow the BCLC to engage players via with a product that attracts all levels of fans without them needing a knowledge of sportsbook odds, said the supplier.

With a $5 buy-in, players can attempt to win or share the prize pool, picking the outcome for all matches on a betting card or randomly choosing winners with a ‘quick pick’ feature. The jackpot is shared between all players that pick the required number of correct outcomes.

Openbet has worked with BCLC since it first launched its iGaming operating in June 2010, when the supplier delivered Canada’s first regulated online casino using its gaming platform and Player Account Management solution. The launch of the pools is the operator’s latest move to develop its online offering.

“We are delighted to continue our work with BCLC through the launch of Sports Pools,” OpenBet chief executive Jeremy Thompson-Hill commented.

“OpenBet is focused on working with our customers to develop technology that offers a superior player experience with new entertaining ways to play,” he explained. “Sports Pools is a great new product for BCLC and one we have been pleased to work with them in developing.”

BCLC vice president of eGaming Monica Bohm said the pools would offer sports fans “an innovative and easy point of entry into sports betting that is fun and appealing."

“It is another example of delivering the very best in gambling entertainment to British Columbians while helping communities across the province grow,” she said.

Through its gambling products, BCLC generates more than CAD$1bn to fund provincial, municipal and charitable programmes across British Columbia.
