Playtech has announced the launch of a new online and mobile sportsbook for Spanish sports publisher MARCA, a division of Unidad Editorial.

The launch of the Playtech-powered MARCAapuestas.es site follows the signing of a long-term agreement between the supplier and Unidad Editorial.

Playtech said that it has successfully migrated existing MARCA players from the previous legacy offering to its cutting-edge platform, featuring the sportsbook alongside a casino offering, with newly enhanced live casino and progressive and slot titles due to launch in the coming months.

Shimon Akad, chief operating officer of Playtech, commented: "Our proven success of delivering leading media brands in regulated markets with a complete sports and gaming offering has enabled us to extend our reach and we’re delighted to be working with MARCA.

"The MARCA brand will reach new heights by using our industry-leading, best-performing sports betting and gaming Omni-channel software, platform, systems, and content, and we look forward to continue working closely with the team in the months and years ahead."

Elicia Martinez, business development manager at Unidad Editorial, added: "We’re delighted to be working with Playtech on the next phase of MARCA’s online and mobile betting and gaming offering and the migration to their technology has been highly successful.

"The Spanish market is rapidly maturing and we’re confident Playtech will be able to deliver the sophisticated and highly engaging offering our readers want."

MARCA first launched an online sportsbook offering in Spain with GTECH under a contract signed in 2012, before opting to move to the Playtech platform.

Playtech also supplies its sportsbook to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian sports publication owned by RCS MediaGroup, the parent of Spain's Unidad Editorial.

Shares in Playtech plc. (Co. Data) (LSE:PTEC) were trading down 0.29 per cent at 860.50 pence per share in London early Thursday.
