US-facing horse race betting operator TVG, a subsidiary of Paddy Power Betfair, has blamed human error for a systems failure which meant that customers were unable to place bets for more than two hours during the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.

The site crashed at around 5:30pm on Saturday, one hour prior to the scheduled post time of the Derby, one of the most popular horse racing events of the year.

In an email later that night, TVG CEO Kip Levin apologized to the operator’s customers and explained that the failure was due to human error.
