US gaming supplier Scientific Games has described the recent launch of its online casino games in Romania as the first of “many efficient expansions” into newly regulated markets, with the company also set to enter Italy and Portugal later this year.

SG Interactive, the iGaming division of Scientific Games, confirmed that its online content went live in Romania earlier this month for licensed operators including 888, Netbet, bwin, Unibet, Betfair and Circus.

Among the titles initially rolled out were Raging Rhino, Zeus III, and Spartacus Gladiator of Rome.

The supplier said that its expansion into Romania is part of a strategy to obtain rapid approval in all newly regulated jurisdictions, which “reflects the quality and strength of SG Interactive in market development, compliance, legal and finance.”

“Bringing our products to a new jurisdiction is always exciting,” said Bob Hays, Scientific Games’ vice president Commercial, Interactive. “With such a strong audience in Europe, we knew a rapid expansion into Romania focused on providing one of the deepest and broadest portfolios of content to operators and players alike would be beneficial for everyone.

“The players there are passionate about our content, and with many of our existing customers already licensed to operate in Romania, we’ll be able to hit the ground running with our proven portfolio. We anticipate this being the first of many efficient expansions into newly regulated locations.”

Shares in Scientific Games Corporation (Co. Data) (NASDAQ:SGMS) closed up 3.21 per cent at US$10.61 per share in New York Monday.
