Horse Racing Ireland subsidiary Tote Ireland has awarded a new contract to Sportech Racing and Digital to upgrade betting technology and services at twenty-six racetracks across the country.

It follows a competitive bidding process, with the contract running for an initial five-year term with the option of five one-year extensions.

Sportech has been the technology and service provider to Tote Ireland since 1999, with operations and support provided from one of Sportech's key operational centers located in Athlone.

“It is very gratifying to know that after many years our partnership with Tote Ireland remains robust and fruitful and that our technologies and services continue to be embraced by Tote Ireland as the way forward in an ever-increasingly competitive marketplace,” said Sportech Racing and Digital president Andrew Gaughan.

The new contract will see Sportech provide an upgrade to Tote Ireland's Quantum pari-mutuel betting system to offer enhanced features and functionality to customers.

The company will continue to offer daily maintenance and logistical support, with hosting and enhanced systems operations provided from its Global Quantum Data and Operations Center in the US.

Tom Higgins, CEO of Tote Ireland, commented: “Tote Ireland have a long and productive business relationship with Sportech and with their Ireland-based team.

“We look forward to enhancing the services offered to our players and to achieving further operational efficiencies in both on-site logistics and system operations.”

Shares in Sportech plc (Co. Data) (LSE:SPO) were unchanged in London Thursday morning at 74.88 pence per share.
