Online gaming operator Betway has launched Betway Arena, a series of eSports competitions which begins later today (March 3rd) with five consecutive weeks of Defense of the Ancients 2 (DOTA2) action.
The first event, King of the Hill, is a five-event series of DOTA2 matches with a weekly 'winner stays on' format. As sponsor, Betway will be offering a comprehensive set of markets on the 'Best of Five' DOTA2 matches.
Hosted by online video platform MoonduckTV, the first match in the series later today will see eSports teams Evil Geniuses and CompLexity Gaming compete for a US$5,000 prize pool and the chance to compete again the following week.
"We're excited to introduce the Betway Arena to eSports fans, which begins with an all new format of world-class DOTA2 action running for five consecutive weeks," said Anthony Werkman, marketing and operations director at Betway.
"I'm confident that the King of the Hill series will be a fantastic event and the first match between Evil Geniuses and CompLexity Gaming is a mouth-watering prospect.
"eSports continues to grow beyond our expectations by featuring regularly in our daily top 10 sports for turnover, and the Betway Arena will give fans can't miss events on the eSports calendar for many months to come," Werkman added.
Last September, the operator September signed a six-figure sponsorship deal with Swedish professional eSports team Ninjas in Pyjamas.
