Casinos Austria's iGaming arm win2day and state-owned Finnish operator Veikkaus have launched their cross-border poker network to allow players from each country to compete against one another.

The network is the first to allow players on a state-run site to play against others in another licensed jurisdiction.

This will see win2day's 800,000 registered users - including 150,000 poker players - compete against the 2.5m registered with Veikkaus, allowing the network to offer larger guaranteed prizes and an improved experience for all ability levels.

To celebrate the launch the network is offering a €100,000 guaranteed prize pool tournament on April 9th. It will also introduce Austrian players to Sökö, a Finnish variant of five-card stud in which one of the five cards is kept hidden while hands are played.

The network is powered by Playtech under a three-year agreement struck with win2day in February 2016, through which it replaced IGT as platform provider.
