The Stars Group says that it expects to launch its sports betting brand BetStars in the regulated Czech iGaming market before the end of the year.

Last week the Toronto-listed operator became the first international company to secure an online sports betting licence in the Czech Republic, where it is already licensed to offer online poker through its PokerStars brand. will be available across desktop and mobile devices, offering odds on more than 20 sports, although it will not include the operators popular Spin & Bet product from other markets due to licensing conditions.

The operator has also launched its next-generation mobile sportsbook for iOS devices in select markets in the European Union, with an Android version set to follow.

"We're proud to be the first international sports betting operator to be awarded a license under the Czech Republic's new licensing regime," BetStars managing director Zeno Ossko said.

"After extensive development, I am also very pleased that we are now able to begin offering players our exciting next generation mobile betting app, an integral part of our ongoing efforts to improve our product and overall offering for both existing and new customers."

Shares in The Stars Group Inc (TOR:TSGI) closed in Toronto Wednesday down 0.52 per cent at CAD$26.76 per share
