Zynga is to launch World Poker Tour (WPT) branded tournaments through its Zynga Poker product following a new partnership with the Ourgame International-owned poker event organiser.

The multi-year partnership will see free-to-play, WPT-themed tournaments launched on Zynga Poker in the second half of the year.

The social gaming giant said the partnership would allow it to leverage WPT's presence in multiple channels, such as TV, online and land-based gaming to grow the Zynga Poker franchise, while also promoting the poker franchise.

"We're incredibly proud to bring the World Poker Tour to Zynga Poker," WPT chief executive Adam Pliska said. "Zynga has built the largest social poker game, and we are confident their millions of players will enjoy their experience even more with the introduction of WPT-themed tournaments in Zynga Poker."

Zynga president of publishing Bernard Kim added: "We're proud to partner with World Poker Tour, a global leader in real-world poker tournaments, to deliver an authentic in-game tournament experience to our Zynga Poker players later this year.

"WPT has innovated in the sport of poker for more than 16 years, and our new free-to-play WPT-themed Zynga Poker tournaments will put the most competitive and genuine poker experience in the palm of players' hands."

The partnership is the latest move to establish the WPT brand in the social casino market.

In 2016 the company launched a stand-alone free-to-play social product, PlayWPT, powered by parent company Ourgame. It is unclear whether this will be shuttered as a result of the Zynga deal.
