New York-listed gaming supplier International Game Technology (IGT) has finalised a patent cross-licensing agreement with free-to-play games developer FlowPlay.

The licensing agreement allows FlowPlay to develop games using a number of patented features from IGT's portfolio.

"We are excited to become a member of the game features patent pool managed by IGT," FlowPlay chief executive Derrick Morton said. "Licensing these game features patents will help FlowPlay build on our legacy of success offering massively multiplayer online (MMO) games and free-to-play social casino titles such as Vegas World.

"Partnering with industry leader IGT provides us with a phenomenal selection of patents that we can leverage to expand our scope of development and suite of online social games to ultimately reach new audiences."

As the holder of the largest slot game features patent portfolio in the United States, IGT has agreed multiple cross-licensing deals with industry suppliers, including Novomatic Group, Scientific Games and Konami Gaming, among others.

"We are excited to expand our game feature patent licensing efforts to online social casino game development with FlowPlay," said Renato Ascoli, IGT chief executive for the North American market. "FlowPlay offers more than 45 different casino-style games already, and this agreement helps to ensure that even more of the authenticity and excitement of land-based casino gaming extends to players in the online social space."

Shares in International Game Technology plc (NSQ:IGT) closed in New York Wednesday down 0.08 per cent at $25.20 per share.
