Chicago-based Rush Street Interactive (RSI) has become the first US operator to launch a regulated online sportsbook in Colombia, marking what the company describes as a significant milestone in its growth strategy.

RSI was granted licence approval earlier this week by Colombian gambling regulator Coljuegos to launch its Kambi-powered sportsbook under the Rush brand.

"RSI is thrilled to be the first US-based operator to enter the regulated Colombian online gaming market where there are over 48m people, a significant existing land-based casino market, and a player base that likes to gamble," said Richard Schwartz, president and co-founder of Rush Street Interactive, which also operates the brand in New Jersey.

"Betting and sports are cultural passions in Colombia so we're excited to combine those with our mission to provide players with compelling and trusted online gambling experiences."

The company says it plans to apply the same successful formula from its online casino in New Jersey to its new Colombian offering, including extensive game content, convenient payment methods and unique player experiences.

"We're going to bring a lot of the functionality, excitement, and innovation, that has worked really well for us in New Jersey, to the Colombian market for the first time," said Schwartz.
