Sports betting technology provider Playtech BGT Sports (PBS) has expanded its partnership with British bookmaker Betfred to add 250 self-service betting terminals (SSBTs) to its network of retail outlets.

The agreement takes the supplier's total to more than 3,000 terminals across 1,700 shops, with the widescreen additions installed in time for the new football season in August.

PBS said that the extension of its partnership reflects the continuing customer demand for self-service products in-shop, including in-play betting opportunities and new products and features.

"Betfred is one of the high street's leading brands and we are thrilled to grow our relationship with them, the addition of extra machines is sure to please its customers," said John Pettit, managing director for UK, Ireland, Asia, and Australia at Playtech BGT Sports.

"We have seen continued growth in turnover from SSBTs and expect this trend to continue throughout the summer and into the new football season when they go live."

Betfred Retail managing director Mark Stebbings said: "Betting in-play has never been more popular so it’s great to be able to turn to Playtech BGT Sports to cater to our needs.

"Their widescreen terminals are the best on the market and we are sure they will continue to be a major part of our business, especially in our best performing shops."

Shares in Playtech plc (LSE:PTEC) were trading down 0.64 per cent at 772.00 pence per share in London Tuesday morning.
