Worldwide lottery sales increased by 13 per cent during the first quarter of 2010, with only the African lotteries market recording a decline during the period, according to figures released by the World Lottery Association (WLA), the umbrella organisation for state lottery and gaming operators worldwide.

The WLA said that the first instalment of the WLA Quarterly Lottery Sales Indicator for 2011 suggested that the “lingering effects of the global financial crisis have largely dissipated for lotteries.”
