The Euro 2012 football championship and continued growth in mobile betting helped Betfair achieve a 13 per cent increase in core revenue in its first financial quarter ended July 31st, while the poker and games segment put in a less impressive performance.

Euro 2012 generated revenue of £7.8m for Betfair while Andy Murray’s first Wimbledon final created the company’s biggest ever tennis market with bets of over £58m. This, together with an improvement in risk-sports margins and exchange activity monetisation helped net gaming revenue (NGR) from sports betting to increase by 21 per cent versus the same period last year to £72.3m.
