A Dutch court has ruled that the decision to almost double the tax paid on gaming machines in 2008 has placed an excessive burden on one particular land-based operator, ordering the country’s authorities to pay compensation of nearly €1.4m to the company.
The ruling came despite the country’s Supreme Court ruling that the tax hike does not breach the European Convention on Human Rights, as alleged by two companies.
