Britain's William Hill has seen its group operating profit fall by 19 per cent in the first quarter, reflecting the impact of the new point of consumption tax and machine games duty in the UK, and a run of unfavourable sporting results during the period.

William Hill's group net revenue climbed 1 per cent year-on-year for the 13 weeks to 31 March 2015, with growth in the United States and William Hill's online business offsetting declining revenue in the retail segment and Australia.
