France’s online gaming market has followed a familiar trajectory in the third quarter of the year, with sports betting emerging as the largest vertical while the growth of poker tournaments represents a long-awaited bright spot for the struggling vertical.

However poker’s overall decline meant that the market posted a marginal year-on-year decline in gross gaming revenue (GGR), which fell by 0.3 per cent to €176.1m.

With poker GGR falling 5 per cent, marginal growth in sportsbook and horse racing revenue failed to make up for the vertical’s struggles, according to figures released by regulator L'Autorité de régulation des jeux en ligne (ARJEL).
