The first quarter of 2016 has seen sports betting firmly established as France’s leading online gaming vertical in terms of revenue and active player accounts, with poker now generating the least out of the country’s three legal forms of gambling, despite returning to growth during the period.

Total gross gaming revenue rose 9.0 per cent year-on-year to €207m in the first quarter, aided by the rapid growth of sports betting and a rare increase in poker revenue, driven predominantly by tournament entry fees.
