Zynga will look to replicate the success of its Wizard of Oz social casino game with a new title based on the classic film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, through a licensing deal with Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment.

The multi-year agreement allows Zynga to develop a range of products based on the film, which was in turn based on the children’s book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl.

The game is to be developed by the team behind two of the company’s most successful recent launches, Wizard of Oz Slots and Hit it Rich! Slots, which are both ranked among the top 10 grossing casino games on the Apple App Store. The new title is expected to be rolled out in 2016.

“We are incredibly excited to deliver our social slots players and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory fans around the world a unique, free-to-play way to engage with one of their favorite brands,” Zynga’s chief game designer for slots Joe Kaminkow commented.

“Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a brand that is adored by generations of consumers and its fantastical and playful nature makes it a perfect fit for the world of slots,” he explained. “Our team looks forward to delighting slots fans in 2016 with a fun, authentic social slots experience that embodies the imaginative world of Wonka and makes players feel like they've won the Golden Ticket.”
