Daily fantasy sports giant FanDuel is launching its first football (soccer) product in the US market, with players to be able to compete in contests covering the English Premier League (EPL) later this month.
The sport is the fifth on which FanDuel offers contests for US customers, alongside its American football, baseball, basketball and hockey tournaments. It already offers DFS contests on football to players via its UK-licensed offering.
The new product sees players pick a roster of eight players; a goalkeeper, two defenders, three midfielders and two forwards, doing so under a $60,000 salary cap. Users accumulate points through a variety of scoring categories, such as chances created and shots on target.
A Friends Mode variant of these Premier League contests - a season-long fantasy product - will launch later this season, following the roll-out of a similar offering for American football.
"Our ultimate goal is for fans of all sports to experience what FanDuel has to offer," said FanDuel CEO Nigel Eccles.
"As we continue to enhance our core product, we look forward to giving the millions of US soccer fans access to the same game day excitement that bring other sports fans to our platform."
