Online poker giant PokerStars has launched a new cash game variant that provides a novel twist on Texas Hold’em.

Launched this week for a limited time only, Split Hold’em splits the community cards into two separate boards dealt simultaneously, creating two flops, two turns and two rivers.

The game offers players more opportunities to make a hand, with the winner of each board receiving half the pot. An entire pot can be scooped by holding the best hand for each board, or if all other players fold.

For the first time, the operator will be using the Seat Me system on its global liquidity player pool. This means that when players take their seat at a Split Hold'em table, instead of manually choosing a table and a seat, players will simply choose the stake that they want to play. If a seat is not immediately available, players will be placed on a waiting list.

“Split Hold'em has already provoked a lot of internal discussion around the best strategy, so we can't wait to see how players adapt,” said PokerStars ring games manager Dan Price. “You may know how to play 88 and AQ - but what about when you have two boards to consider?”
