The Australian federal government has announced a number of national reforms as it looks to tackle problem gambling across the country, increasing the powers of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) to enforce new rules relating to online gambling and sports betting.

In what the Gillard government has proclaimed will be the “most significant and far reaching national reforms to tackle problem gambling ever seen in this country”, a number of reforms have been proposed for the pokies market, as well as the growing online gaming and sports betting segment.
