Fourteen companies are waiting on tenterhooks as the German Gambling Authority prepares to issue the first online sports betting licences under the new State Treaty.

The licences could be issued as early as next week but the regulator is determined to complete the process by the beginning of May.

Only 14 companies passed the stringent requirements required of them by the regulator. Between 100 and 150 companies applied for a licence. The State Treaty states that a maximum of 20 licences can be issued.
