An alleged associate of the Gambino organized crime family and leader of the illegal sports betting operation shut down by US authorities last year faces a possible jail term of twenty years after pleading guilty in court yesterday.

Deirdre M Daly, acting US Attorney for the District of Connecticut, said that Dean DePreta pleaded pleaded guilty before US District Judge Vanessa L Bryant in Hartford to one count of conspiring to violate the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) stemming from his involvement in illegal gambling businesses.

DePreta has been detained since his arrest last June, alongside 19 others who were charged with various offenses related to their involvement in an illegal internet sports bookmaking operation and illegal card gambling clubs based in Stamford and Hamden.
