In a blow to New Jersey’s attempts to legalise sports betting, a three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit has ruled that the state’s legislation violates federal statutes.

The decision upholds an earlier ruling by the Federal District Court of New Jersey in March which barred the state from legalising sports betting after it upheld the constitutionality of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).
