The Responsible Gambling Trust (RGT) has announced further details of the next stage of the independent research it is commissioning into Fixed Odds Betting Terminals in the UK, although the Campaign for Fairer Gambling has raised question marks over the research’s validity and impartiality.

The RGT has commissioned a two-stage independent research programme into Category B gaming machines, with teams working on the programme including NatCen Social Research, Featurespace and Geofutures, along with other academic teams.

Following input by the UK government, the Gambling Commission, and the Responsible Gambling Strategy Board, the RGT said that the second stage of research has been expanded in recognition of growing concern about gaming machines in LBOs (licensed betting offices).
