The organisers of the Stockholm Marathon have been threatened with a SEK2.0m (€220,000) fine by Swedish gambling regulator Lotteriinspektionen, should the race go ahead later this month featuring the branding of gaming operator Unibet.

Last week the operator was announced as one of the main sponsors of the marathon, which is due to take place on May 31st, with Unibet's branding appearing along the route, while the operator's site will offer special betting markets on the event.

The Lotteriinspektionen has moved to block the deal from going ahead however, accusing the organiser Stockholm Marathon Group of violating the country’s lottery laws which prohibit the marketing or advertising of foreign gambling companies.
