The European Commission (EC) will adopt a recommendation Wednesday which it says will help member states deliver a high level of protection to citizens in the area of online gambling services.

The recommendation seeks to ensure that European citizens, particularly minors, are aware of the risks associated with gambling, and that operators have a set of common principles to abide by for responsible commercial communication.

It also seeks to provide assurance to consumers that the authorised sites that they play on have adequate identity and age verification safeguards in place, and establishes measures to prevent the risks associated with gambling.
