The Australian Wagering Council (AWC), the industry body representing the interests of operators in the Australian sports betting market, has reiterated its commitment to maintaining sporting integrity after a number of players and officials were caught betting on rugby league matches.

The AWC’s media manager Mary Collier claimed that the fact the players and officials were caught, and have since been sanctioned, highlighted the importance and effectiveness of the current integrity agreements between the council’s members and the National Rugby League.

“AWC members are committed to continuing to work collaboratively with the NRL and other sporting bodies to encourage high standards of probity and integrity across all sporting codes,” Collier added.
