US law enforcement labour union the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) has again spoken out against attempts to enforce a federal ban on online gambling, warning Congress that it “cannot ban its way out of this problem.”

In an open letter addressed to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Speaker of the House John Boehner and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, FOP national president Chuck Canterbury warned that banning iGaming would drive the pastime further underground and put more US citizens at risk.

“Internet gaming forced into the shadows would exacerbate current difficulties and create new dangers,” wrote Canterbury.
