The trial of four men, including the former chairman of Harness Racing New Zealand (HRNZ), over an alleged multi-million dollar poker machine fraud has begun in New Zealand, in what is the largest criminal case in the country’s Class 4 gambling sector.

Charged alongside former HRNZ chair Patrick O’Brien is his son, Michael O’Brien, Paul Max, and a fourth defendant who has been granted interim name suppression but is understood to be a former gaming inspector.
